Game Genre
Without looking it up, what do you think a genre is and give an example? (not a game genre).
- A genre represent the elements of story its going to be. People will want to know what the story is going to be about Actions, Drama, Sci-fi, Horrors, or Mystery.
Look at two of your favorite games, what type of game genre are they? (try to pick two that are not the same type).
Two of my favorite games are Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Ghost of Tsushima. Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a Eight player fighting game that Feature characters form Nintendo brands. Mario from the "Super Mario Bros" series, Donkey Kong from Donkey Kong Country series, Link from "The Legend of Zelda" and Pikachu from Pokemon. Ghost of Tsushima is a open world action-adventure set in feudal Japan during the first mongo invasion. I played as Jin Sakai, a Samurai who survive the first attack of the Mongol Fleet on the island of Tsushima. After recoving, he went to gahter more allies to take back his homeland while using under handed methods that are against his samurai code.
List the defining characteristics of each game, the ones that make the game fall into that game genre category.
Super Smash Bros, the goals is to beat up your opponents and knock them off stages using items and your characters abilities. The game has man modes to keep the players entertain and busy. There are modes in the game that allow for a great get together or solo experience. Ghost of Tsushima is a stealth Action - Adventure where you explore the island of Tsushima while freeing its citizen from the Mongol hoards. You fight using your swords and arrows while using other gadgets to keep you enemies off balance. There are different sword styles to use against different enemies and many armors with different buffs, the leveling system are use to upgrade Jin by unlocking new skills. the game have two ways of dispatching yours foes, Face them head on like a Samurai would or be dishonorable and kills from behind while poisoning their drinking supplies.
If you were designing a game what game genre would it fall under? What defining characteristics would place it in that genre?
When I design a game, It will be a simple platformer that will be hard to beat. It will be similar to the Difficulty of the 90's games from the SNES and Genesis. I made it so players will learn to adapt and change tactics in order to overcome the challenge ahead of them
